Re: U.S. HIV/AIDS funding crisis: Corporate, philanthropic & government leaders converge in Oakland
Oakland, CA a “Model City” for innovation during fiscal crisis
In the wake of massive budget shortfalls around the U.S. – including an 80% reduction in CA state funding for HIV testing and prevention – America’s leaders in HIV/AIDS philanthropy, corporate social responsibility, and government are advancing innovative remedies during a day-long meeting in Oakland, CA. Half of the day will be devoted to Oakland’s own “model” fiscal stop-gaps (featured in the Economist magazine and elsewhere), and to other program innovations from around the Bay Area and the nation. Oakland Mayor Ronald V. Dellums will provide a keynote address.
When: Thursday, October 7, 2010, 9AM-4:30PM (some speakers available for interview in advance)
Where: The California Endowment, Oakland Conference Center, 1111 Broadway, 7th Floor (Oakland)
Whom:
