Addressing the Cascade: Spotlight on HarborPath

On July 15, 2013 – the 3rd anniversary of the National HIV/AIDS Strategy – President Obama announced the new HIV Care Continuum Initiative focused on improving outcomes along the continuum of care, and to increase the proportion of individuals who have the virus effectively controlled. In less than two months, the Affordable Care Act (ACA)’s marketplaces will open for enrollment.  While this moment will offer tremendous opportunities to improve access to and retention in care, gaps in health insurance coverage for low-income PLWHA may continue to present challenges.

In this funder-only webinar, FCAA will turn the spotlight on HarborPath, a South Carolina-based non profit organization dedicated to helping uninsured PLWHA gain access to free medications through a “one-stop shop” online portal for application and medication fulfillment.
Just over one year ago President Bill Clinton announced theClinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI) partnership with HarborPath. This program is a cooperative effort supported by CHAI and the National Alliance of State and Territorial AIDS Directors (NASTAD), pharmaceutical companies, and patient groups. Gilead Sciences recently joined Merck and ViiV Healthcare as the third pharmaceutical company to support HarborPath since its July 2012 launch.
More recently, HarborPath received a $250,000 grant from the Elton John AIDS Foundation to help enhance its online portal, and to employ staff to assist with outreach to clinics and patient advocacy organizations serving PLWHA.

This 1-hour funder webinar, available here, provides further details on this innovative program, leading stakeholders, and from its growing collection of private and corporate funding partners.
