Understanding the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program

The unofficial theme of the FCAA 2012 AIDS Philanthropy Summit became the “Treatment Cascade,” as speaker after speaker referred to the oft-quoted, yet still startling data showing that only a third of PLWHA in the United States are engaged in regular care, and less – only 25%  – have a suppressed viral load.

In this two-part webinar series, co-sponsored by Grantmakers in Health (GIH), we will explore the policy landscape and key funder responses that surround the Treatment Cascade.

In the first part of this series we will explore the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program, the $2 billion dollar federal investment that provides care & services to half a million PLWHA each year. Jeffrey Crowley (O’Neill Institute at Georgetown) and Jen Kates (Kaiser Family Foundation), authors of the recent report “Updating the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program for a New Era – Key Issues & Questions for the Future,” will provide an overview of key considerations as we approach reauthorization and the implementation of the Affordable Care Act.  Next, Dr. Laura Cheever (US Department of Health and Human Services) will offer HRSA’s view on the role of the Ryan White Program moving forward.
