FCAA Data Spotlight: Private HIV/AIDS Funding for Africa

Now just a few months away from AIDS 2016 in Durban, and in support of the Africa Grantmakers’ Affinity Group’s 2016 Annual Retreat,  for this month’s data feature FCAA turns the spotlight on private HIV/AIDS funding for Africa.

Sub-Saharan Africa continues to be the hardest hit region, home to 70% of people living with HIV/AIDS, but only 13% of the world’s population.  In 2014, approximately $132 million in philanthropic funding for HIV/AIDS was disbursed to Africa, representing 21% of total funding for the year. Nearly half of that funding benefited women and children, including pregnant women/mothers & babies, youth (15-24), children (0-14), orphans & vulnerable children, and women and girls. In Sub-Saharan Africa, young women account for 63% of young people living with HIV/AIDS.
