Funding HIV Advocacy: The Critical Role of Private Philanthropy in Supporting Strategies that Work

Funders Concerned About AIDS’ Philanthropic Support to Address HIV/AIDS reports that roughly 2% of global resources for HIV were contributed by philanthropy in 2014. Of that 2% ($618M), only 11% was dedicated to the support of advocacy efforts. 

Recognizing that advocacy is the engine that has driven the response from the earliest days of the epidemic, and, further, that private philanthropy is the primary source of advocacy funding, FCAA recently convened the world’s top public and private HIV funders for a two-day meeting in London to address the inadequacy of resources dedicated to this vital component of the response.
