EU Resource Tracking Webinar

On 10 December 2013 FCAA launched the latest report showing that US$636 million in funding from global private philanthropic organizations was disbursed to HIV/AIDS in 2012, remaining essentially flat (a less than 1% increase) from 2011. This slight growth is largely due to the addition of 40 funders, new to the report, based outside of the U.S. and Western and Central Europe. Excluding funding from these organizations, philanthropy from U.S.- and E.U.-based organizations decreased by US$33 million, or 5% from 2011. Overall total philanthropic funding has remained at roughly the same level since 2007, and continues to be strongly influenced by the world’s largest HIV/AIDS philanthropic donor, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (Gates Foundation). Forecasts in both the U.S. and Europe suggest that private AIDS funding is unlikely to increase in 2013.

On this webinar  FCAA and UNAIDS staff, as well as top European HIV/AIDS-related funders, discussed the scope of the European philanthropic response to HIV/AIDS, including, but not limited to:

  • Who were the top European funders in 2012?
  • Where is the majority of European HIV/AIDS Philanthropy directed and to whom?
  • What strategies are European funders supporting?
  • How does the global philanthropic response compare to overall resources?
  • How do your colleagues use this important report and data within their work?

Speakers:

  • John Barnes, FCAA Executive Director
  • Louise van Deth, Director, STOP AIDS NOW!
  • Deepak Mattur, Evaluation and Economics, Division, UNAIDS Mattur Presentation
  • Erika Baehr, FCAA Resource Tracking Consultant Baehr Presentation
